Lufthansa Microlearning Content & Learning App

Client
Lufthansa

Lufthansa Technik is a leading global provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services for aircraft, engines and components. The Lufthansa Technik Group consists of 32 companies with more than 25,000 employees worldwide.

As part of the learning and development tools within the company, sits the current web-based training programmes. These programmes are hosted on large complex learning management systems that are monolithic in their offering.

The company approached The Immersive Learning Studio to design and develop a specific microlearning training application that would enable the rollout of their standard operating system across all of the maintenance divisions, worldwide.

Standardisation of training materials across all locations was previously a problem for the company. Whilst Lufthansa Technik in Malta was the location for the physical in-person training events, Lufthansa wanted to duplicate these standards across all 6 main locations in Europe to ensure that all learning was captured the cascaded through the organisation.

In addition, the company not only wanted to upskill their current employees with this new methodology and way of working; they also wanted to ensure that all new employees received this training as part of their induction into the company.

And ultimately, as the nature of the content is technically complex. we run the risk of “turning people off” if they were not engaged from the start.

To overcome all of these challenges we initially created 7 whiteboard animation videos which scribed out the new Project & Performance Management process and documented this new way in a step-by-step approach.

These short videos began with an introduction into “a day in the life of”, this set the scene for the 6 other videos which delved into the topics in more detail.

We worked closely with the management consultancy company who was driving this change programme to ensure that we pulled out all of the key learning points and presented these in a creative and engaging way, that would keep the learner interested from the start.

Furthermore, in order to separate this training from other company training, we designed the topics in short bite-sized pieces that were easily manageable to progress through.

The main differentiator in our offer when we presented our solution to the Lufthansa team, was that not only would we be converting their subject matter into engaging learning materials, we would also be using our Integrated Agile Learning Platform to act as a Learning App for the Project & Performance Management Topic.

A Learning App was created as a dedicated cloud-based microlearning solution that could be accessed by any Lufthansa employee from anywhere in the worked, on a smartphone, tablet or desktop. In addition to accessibility, the learning app performed as an administrative tool for the Lufthansa managers.

This allowed managers to onboard learners easily using the built-in email system and then track user progress – from initial welcome email, right the way through to the point when they achieved their certification.

We delivered the online platform on time and on budget and has been very positively received by the management teams. The new bespoke learning tool is now being used daily by employees in 9 locations, right across the world.

“Lufthansa Technik developed a standard operating system for its Aircraft Base Maintenance Operations. The Immersive Learning Studio played a key role in this project by supporting Lufthansa with the design and development of a web app training platform. This platform was used as a key tool in bringing this new standard operating system to each site across Europe. The content, layout and user-friendliness has ensured its successful rollout.

Throughout the project Lufthansa have found working with The Immersive Learning Studio a very positive experience, their expertise, ideas and professionalism delivered an excellent result. They listened to our (at times changing requirements) and their friendly approach made the complete process very easy and stress-free.

We would definitely recommend The Immersive Learning Studio as a partner for such projects and look forward to working with them again in the future”.
